| This picture shows the Goddess of Dawn freeing herself from the shackles of night. The influence of Burne-Jones is obvious, though as in all other works of Evelyn De Morgan her own mastery, & distinctive stamp is on the picture. The painting has a forged signature of Burne-Jones, though I very much doubt if Russell-Cotes was deceived by this. Ultimately it is a large, glorious Evelyn De Morgan painting, which is high enough recommendation in itself. |
