Victorian Art in Britain

La Belle Dame Sans Merci by Sir Frank Dicksee

Painted in 1903 this large famous painting is very much in the 19th century Pre-Raphaelite tradition, being a depiction of the femme fatale in a romanticised vision of medieval times. Like many other of Dicksee’s pictures it is highly finished, and well structured. It is a great favourite with poster companies, & understandably so.
